FC Barcelona winger Ansu Fati has asked to leave the club as he is not getting regular playing time, reported renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday.
Fati, 20, feels that he is not trusted by Barca's head coach Xavi Hernandez and has decided to leave the club due to lack of minutes.
The summer transfer window is just about to end and Fati — despite expressing his desire to stay at the Catalan club all summer — wants to find a new club where he could become a starter.
Fati has been consistently struggling for regular first-team football.
Last season, the footballer started 23 matches off the bench and the trend has continued this season as in the three league games Barca have played, he didn't start a single one.
A number of clubs are said to be interested in the Spaniard with Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea leading the race.
Fati's agent Jorge Mendes has already met with Spurs and is now convincing the player to accept a loan deal with the North London club.
Tottenham have lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich and are now looking at all the possible options to strengthen their attack and Fati, being a great finisher, is someone who intrigues their manager Ange Postecoglou.
Fati made his debut in 2019 at the age of 16 and became the youngest goal-scorer in the club’s history as he scored in a 2-2 draw against Osasuna.
He became the youngest goal-scorer in the UEFA Champions League history at the age of 17 after scoring against Inter Milan in a 1-2 away victory at San Siro.
He was also one of the hottest prospects in the world with his elite shooting technique and dribbling skills but he stayed nine months on the sidelines after tearing a meniscus in his left knee.
It was considered in 2021 that Fati is going to be the face of the club for years to come when he inherited Lionel Messi’s iconic number 10 after the Argentine left the club but it seems that is not going to happen.
